The event.

NASA identifies the 2 July 2019 event as the successful Orion Ascent Abort-2 flight test. No crew was aboard and the separation was not a malfunction.

The violent separation is the safety system succeeding. The event is a controlled test, not a launch accident, in-flight failure, or crew emergency.

The abort motor pulled the capsule clear, then the jettison motor discarded the tower so the crew module could recover.

The abort motor first pulled the capsule away from the booster. About 27 seconds after abort initiation, the jettison motor released the crew module from the abort tower.
